How to prepare product descriptions for bulk classification
One-word SKU names rarely contain enough facts for a defensible classification. For better candidates, include the product, principal material, main function, important components, and intended use on each line. “Stainless steel kitchen sink” is more useful than “sink,” and “cotton knitted men’s T-shirt” is more useful than a private SKU name.
The export contains candidates, not final customs decisions. Review nearby headings, official notes, current duty measures, and relevant CBP rulings before using a code in an entry. A repeated catalog is a good candidate for a documented review because one corrected decision can reduce risk across many future shipments.
Keep the original product description beside the exported candidate, record who reviewed the final code, and date the decision. That simple audit trail makes future updates and broker handoffs easier.
